Republic Day Chief Guest:
In 2011 Republic day comes on Wednesday January 26 2011. Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will be the chief guest during India's Republic Day celebration in 2011. The Republic Day of India is celebrated to mark the adoption of the Constitution of India and the transition of India to a republic on January 26, 1950. It is one of the three national holidays in India.
Republic Day Celebration:
The day begins with paying homage to national leaders and martyrs. Then the President will hoist the national flag the tricolour amid the the singing national anthem. This is followed by distribution of Ashok Chakra and other bravery awards to the awardee by the president. In state capital Governor will hoist the national flag.
Republic Day Parade:
Every year a grand parade is held in the capital, New Delhi, from the Raisina Hill near the Rashtrapati Bhavan (President's Palace), along the Rajpath, past India Gate and on to the historic Red Fort. The parade includes latest armoury, missiles and army vehicles.
The different regiments of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force march past in all their finery and official decorations. Even the horses, camels, elephants of the cavalry are attractively caparisoned to suit the occasion. The President of India who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, takes the salute.
Floats showcasing the cultures of the various states and regions of India are part of the grand parade, which is broadcast nationwide on television (Doordarshan) and radio. Also part of the parade are children who win the National Bravery Award for the year. The parade ends with a flypast by Indian Air Force jets.
