Lately, Nagarjuna has been trying to experiment with his image and ‘Gaganam’ falls into that bracket. This is released in Tamil as well with the title ‘Payanam’ and it brings back director Radha Mohan of ‘Akasamantha’ fame. Let us see how this bilingual is..

Story: A flight which takes off from Chennai is hijacked by terrorists and they want to take it to Rawalpindi.
However, an engine failure forces them to land the aircraft in Tirupathi. The defense ministry gets alerted and in comes home secretary Vishwanath (Prakashraj) to know the demands of the hijackers.
He goes with a team to Tirupathi and keeping in mind, the need for a military operation at any instant, Major Ravindra (Nagarjuna) arrives to Tirupathi airport with his team of commandos. The demand is for the release of dreaded terrorist Yousuf Khan or else the hundred passengers in aircraft will be killed.
Just when the government gives up and decides to release Yousuf Khan, an interesting twist takes place. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Performances:Nagarjuna has given a balanced performance and doesn’t cross the line anywhere. He fits the bill with his well maintained physique.
Prakashraj makes his presence felt though it is a brief and important role. He showed the right kind of emotions during critical scenes.
Bharath Reddy fits the role perfectly as Nag’s assistant.
Poonam Kaur was okay, the track between the doctor and Sana Khan was annoying. Thalaivasal Vijay was impressive as usual. Prithvi was not upto the mark but his character was etched well. Brahmi failed to impress this time. The rest of them did their bit as required.
The dialogues written by Umerjee Anuradha (Ye Maya Chesaave fame) are sounding as if dubbed directly from Tamil. The nativity is missing in that. 90% of the film runs inside the flight and a conference hall in airport. Yet, no monotony was experienced with the effective cinematography of KV Guhan. Especially the tension was effectively built up with steady cameras and lighting schemes.
Praveen Mani's background score stands as a plus point in the film. A few lags were observed in editing here and there. There could have been a 10 minute cut to make the film compact. Although it's an experiment the production values are on par with regular commercial cinema.

Drawbacks:Jerks in editing

Analysis:Nagarjuna made several experiments in his 25 year film career. He gave opportunities to new directors and made block busters like Shiva. He also acted in devotional films when many opined that devotional genre has gone obsolete on Tollywood screen. His Annamayya and Sree Rama Dasu have become super hits that way. It is really a stunning thing to know that a film where a big hero is playing the lead carries no songs and fights. But still this film engages the audiences efficiently for 2 hours.

Radha Mohan needs a definite mention here, He dealt with soft stories like Akasamantha earlier and now he came up with this thriller. But still he has shown his caliber. He is successful because he dealt with the subject efficiently without any diversions.
Despite a serious movie, the entertainment quotient is not missed. Intelligently he grooved in a film hero and his fan in the flight to bring in humor. Similarly at the end the way the director used a junior artiste for a military operation also sounds interesting.
No logical errors can be seen in this film. But a few scenes between Sana Khan and the doctor didn’t fit into the story. The moods and emotions of the passengers those were hijacked weren’t captured effectively.
Although first half goes little dull, he took enough care in second half by making it thrilling and captivating. Although it is predictable that it will be a happy ending, the director proved successful in bringing in tension with his screenplay.

The film may lose a few mass masala audience but it clicks really well with the A center audiences. It has to be seen how it fares at box office. If that wonder works out, then we can state that ‘Gaganam’ sets a new trend in Tollywood history.

One of the most prestigious under graduate and post graduate university in India Jawaharlal Nehru University is in news for a new controversial incident in the campus.


In JNU campus. a CD is in motion – with two undergraduate students – a boy and girl has been found in objectionable content which also included a MCA student.

Sources told that this CD is being circulated from last six months, but has come under light just a week ago and all suspicious students are under questioning.

The content of this CD was shot in an hostel room of the university. The chief proctor is inquiring about the content found in this CD.

All three students involved in case belongs to the TAPTI hostel of Jawahar Lal University. This JNU campus MMS scandal has downgraded the JNU image – a student told to us.

Dev Anand's  Hum Dono that was originally released in 1961 was the last black-and-white film from the Navketan Banner. The classic film will have a theatrical re-release in its new colourized version and is now titled as Hum Dono Rangeen .

Hum Dono is still remembered for its evergreen melodious like ' Main Zindagi Ka Saath Nibhata Chala Gaya ' and ' Abhi Na Jao Chod Kar '.

Legend films has coloured the black and white version of film Hum Dono with the most advanced technology in US. The film has been coloured using 65000 colours while earlier Indian classics like Mughal-e-Azam and Naya Daur had used the colour scheme of 16 and 32 colors respectively.

Regarding the colourized re-release Dev Anand, "It's nostalgic to even think about Hum Dono . I still remember the kind of response we had got when it was released way back in 1961. I am happy that people would be able to relive the experience in a better way and hope the younger generation who has not seen the film would also love it the way film was loved 50 years back. This film is also special because it was the last black and white film of Navketan films. I am waiting for people's reaction to Hum Dono Rangeen and my next directorial film Charge Sheet that will release shortly after Hum Dono Rangeen ."

There are plans to convert the coloured version into 3D format for enhanced viewing experience.

Executive producer James Cameron might not have had much to do with "Sanctum," which is a relatively low-budget production. But the movie, directed by Alister Grierson, does use Cameron's 3-D cinematography techniques (which worked a lot better in "Avatar") and reflects his preference for spectacle over screenwriting.
Set in Papua New Guinea (but filmed in Australia with a largely Australian cast), "Sanctum" sends about a dozen divers on an expedition into sprawling, partially flooded catacombs. The ones who count are crusty master spelunker Frank (Richard Roxburgh); his resentful teenage son, Josh (Rhys Wakefield); cocky American Carl (Ioan Gruffudd), who's financing the dive; Carl's athletic girlfriend, Victoria (Alice Parkinson); and George (Dan Wyllie), a veteran caver who's savvy but burned out.
The sequences introducing these explorers are ineptly written; the dialogue mixes cliches with phony tough-guy banter and TV-sports mottos. (One supporting player rarely says anything but "let's do it.") The movie is most convincing when the characters have air tubes in their mouths, and it's always cause for alarm when the adventurers stop swimming to talk out some conflict.
A typhoon is moving in, which is good reason to exit a subterranean cave system. But Frank is in no hurry, and the colleagues he sends toward the portal find it inundated by heavy rain. The survivors head back to their leader, who vows to lead them to the surface by another, uncharted course. Not all of them will make it, of course.
The subsequent action scenes are well staged, with moments that are certain to jangle anyone with even mild claustrophobia, acrophobia or aquaphobia. The underground mishaps soon make their point, however, and only the most dedicated X-treme sports fans will thrill to every stumble, slip and fall. The sensation of being trapped shifts from the vicarious to the actual.
"Sanctum" opens with the claim that it's inspired by a true story; that real-life incident actually involved co-writer Andrew Wight. But Wight's adventure was a lot less grisly than the one he and John Garvin have devised. This is a movie that features not one, but two graphic mercy killings. Forget "127 Hours": "Sanctum" makes sawing off your own arm look like a minor penalty for the crime of spelunking while clueless.

Abu Dhabi, Oct 17 – ‘East Is East’, the heartwarming story of an Asian family settled in London, will end as a trilogy, says producer Leslee Udwin who released part two ‘West Is West’ last month.



‘I knew there was trilogy and it took 10 years for Ayub (writer Ayub Khan-Din) to deliver the script of the second part. Now I know there is a third part to this film. I don’t want to talk about the plot because they have to happen with the integrity of the process. And anyway, I don’t want to give things away now,’ Udwin said at the Abu Dhabi film festival.
She says that the story’s setting would depend on the writer Ayub, but if she will have her way she will like it to be placed in Britain.
‘What I want to see is Pakistani characters coming back — coming for the first time to this strange society in UK. Now there is a truce in the Khan family because George has mellowed and he has learnt deep personal lessons, I will also love to see what comes out of that. I want to see George Khan shake hand with the gay boyfriend of his son,’ she added.
Set in 1971, director Damien O’Donnell wielded the megaphone for ‘East is East’ to narrate Ayub’s story about a Pakistani migrant George Khan, played by Om Puri, who expects his family to follow Pakistani Muslim ways. But his children, with an English mother and having been born and brought up in Britain, increasingly see themselves as British and reject his suggestions.
The film was released in 2000 and after a decade has come the second part titled ‘West is West’, but with some changes. Puri reprises his role as George, but this time the story takes place in Punjab province in Pakistan and Ila Arun joins the cast.

Andy DeEmmony has directed part two which was again penned by Ayub.

‘West is West gets much deeper, profound film and much more material film. It delivers the same comedy and the same sensibility. It is just as just entertaining and even more uplifting, but bit more balanced,’ said Udwin.
Though part two has come after a decade, she feels it’s the right time to release a movie.

     Today is Groundhog Day, the appointed date for Punxsutawney Phil to tell us how much more winter we can expect to experience. So how about it, Phil?

It is reported that Aamir Khan is all set to rock in Dhoom 3. After John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan its Aamir now in a very different role than what he had played in the past.

 

A source said, "Aamir will start shooting for the film by the year-end. He will work on his physique starting from April to get in character for the role."

 

Vijay Krishna Acharya will direct the flick and we will again see Jai Dixit and Ali in Dhoom 3 played by Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra.

 

This is Aamir’s third Yash Raj film and first action movie and playing an action hero for this flick is a tough challenge and Aamir will really have to work hard. But, when the Perfectionist of B-Town is playing the role then of course hopes are really high.

A wall at the Chepauk stadium in Chennai collapsed on Wednesday injuring two persons.
The sale of the tickets for World Cup had kicked off on Wednesday morning and scores of people had qued at the stadium to buy the tickets.

The incident occurred when some of the people leaned on a wall causing its collapse.

A man and woman were injured in the mishap. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
They were discharged from the hospital after the treatment as they had sustained minor injuries.

Four cricket matches for the world cup will be held in the stadium.

This is the second embarrassment for India in connection with the World Cup.

Earlier, Kolkata’s Eden Garden was declared unfit to host a match between India and England. The match has been shifted to Bangalore.

Plot Summary: After abandoning a promising academic career in forensic science, a self-styled Sherlock Holmes, Doug (Cris Lankenau), returns to Portland to live with his more responsible big sister Gail (Trieste Kelly Dunn). If life at Downton could be so upset by the sinking of the Titanic and the drama surrounding an entailment, how will it be affected when the world goes to war? This is what we are left to wonder at the end of Downton Abbey's first season.
After my initial preview, I decided to wait until PBS had finished airing the final installment to write about it. Along the way, one can admire the nuanced performances or the clever dialogue. But only after watching the entire series can you appreciate the way that writer Julian Fellowes crafted a period piece as engrossing as any modern-day drama. The story slowly unravels over 6 hours that seem to pass in no time at all.
So often in stories about a noble family, the household staff is out of sight, out of mind. It never seems quite fair, given that their work is what makes things run smoothly and allows for the idle lifestyle that those with titles are entitled to. Downton Abbey takes a different approach and is all the better for it. Sure, the "upstairs, downstairs" nature of the arrangement means that they can't fully understand each other, but the lives of the servants and the served at Downton are clearly entwined.
The complex web of relationships is the driving force, for good and ill. So for all the selfish scheming of O'Brien and Thomas, or Edith and Mary, you also get the warmth of characters like Bates, Anna, and Sybil. Everyone has their moments of honor and weakness.
In the end, it's the little things that leave a lasting impression--Matthew allowing Molesley to help with his cufflinks; Mr. Carson practicing on the telephone, trying so hard to uphold the dignity of Downton as he contends with a confusing new device in an ever-changing world; Gwen getting the job as a secretary and realizing that she can make things different for herself; Robert breaking down in tears in front of Bates as he mourns the loss of his unborn son and the promise of security for his wife and daughters.
When the show is over, you are left feeling that you know these people intimately, and there is a moment of confusion after Robert Crawley utters the last words--"We are at war with Germany"--when you realize that you don't get to see what happens next until several months from now when Series 2 is completed. In the meantime, we must reside in 2011 and think of other things.
